How Changing Ball Position Can Help Your Weight Transfer!!

One of the most important parts of striking a golf ball consistently is understanding how your ball position can influence your weight transfer throughout the swing.

A common mistake I see is golfers who start struggling with their ball striking and gradually move the ball further back in their stance. This can seem logical because having the ball further back can make it easier to strike the ball before the ground, helping to avoid fat shots.

The problem is that when you continue to play the ball too far back, it can have a negative effect on your weight transfer. In many cases, the head can start drifting back during the backswing and stay back throughout the follow-through, making it more difficult to move your weight towards the target.

This can lead to inconsistent contact and a loss of compression, as the body struggles to move through the shot correctly.

A simple checkpoint is to make sure your ball position is just forward of the centre of your stance with all your numbered irons. With your wedges, you can position the ball in the middle of your stance.

When the ball is positioned correctly, it helps you keep your head slightly behind the ball while allowing your body to move through the shot. This encourages better weight transfer and helps you strike the ball with more compression.

The key is to avoid moving the ball further back in your stance simply because you are struggling with contact. Although it might seem like a quick fix, it can create other problems with your swing over time.

Sometimes, improving your ball striking is not about making major changes to your swing, but simply getting the fundamentals right and giving yourself the best chance to move through the ball correctly.
