Why Distance From The Ball Is So Crucial For Consistency!!

When first commencing golf, it can be quite overwhelming when trying to learn the fundamentals. One of the big keys is learning how far to stand from the ball. Standing at the correct distance from the ball is one of the most understated components of the set-up as it can have a great influence over your ball striking. Once you learn the correct distance along with the ideal spine tilt, you will find that your ball striking will dramatically improve.
One of the biggest issues I see with beginners is that they tend to stand too far away from the ball. This is generally because their posture is too straight as well, they tend to keep their arms straight. When the arms are too far away from the body, it leads to disconnection because the arms have a difficult time connecting with the body. It also leads to the spine angle dramatically changing as the more the arms push away from the body, the more the body tends to lift during the swing.
Now the correct distance from the ball can be measured in two ways. The first way to measure is the conventional way of once the spine angle is established (tilted to 45 degrees), you should roughly be a handspan away from the body. The other way of measuring is simply placing the club down in front of you between your legs and about half the grip should be past your heels. The latter is definitely more of the precise way.
When you do have the correct distance with your spine angle in the ideal position, it will now give you a great opportunity to stay connected during the swing. Another important aspect to note is when setting up, just lower your hands a little also. This adjustment will allow the wrists to hinge more naturally on the backswing. Now when taking the club back just simply feel the left arm slide across the chest. This will then allow your arms and body to stay connected during the swing.
