Does A Ten-Finger Grip Work?

The short answer to this question is yes however for the majority of golfers, it can be a challenge to have consistent impact with this grip. This is why it is very rare that you see an elite golfer have this grip. When you first start golf, this grip will feel the most comfortable as it will feel you have complete control of the club. However typically after time golfers wishing to go to the next level will change to an overlap or an interlock as it keeps the hands closer together through impact thus striking the ball more consistently.
You can however stay with a ten finger grip if your impact position doesn't get affected. This means that as long as your hands are staying in front of the clubface at impact and the left arm is not breaking down, then a ten finger grip can definitely work. In order to make this work, you need to ensure that the hands stay very close together. You need to try and have the right thumb stay on the left hand right up until impact.
If the right hand starts to slip down, which is the danger of a ten fin ger grip, the hands will tend to flip through impact. This means the hands will tend to stay behind the clubface at impact causing 'thin' shots and 'top' shots. Keeping the right hand on top of the left thumb will ensure the hands have every chance to steady the club through impact and thus enabling the handle to stay in front of the clubface.
Also a final point to making the ten finger grip work is you should practice hitting balls one handed and alternate between the left and right. You want to feel what the right hand is doing through the swing and more importantly being able to keep the handle in front of the clubface at impact. The left hand is more challenging for right handers but if you can feel the handle again staying in front of the clubface at impact, again you will feel correctly how the arm functions through the strike. Once you then combine the hands using a ten finger grip, you will have a very good feel how both hands function through the swing and thus will avoid any pitfalls that could happen.
