How Do I Hit The Nine Different Shot Shapes??

Tiger famously stated that when he was on top of his game, he was able to hit nine different shot shapes. This simply means that he was able to hit the low, medium and high shot with a fade or draw at will. To be proficient at executing these shots, you would definitely need to be an above average golfer. The reason being is that in order to achieve these different flights, you would need to have fairly good technique. In addition your path and clubface need to be quite neutral through impact.

Now when attempting this exercise, I would do so with a mid iron such as a 6 and would start with the low-straight shot. All you would need to do here is simply place the ball back in your stance and do a normal swing. When moving to a low-draw, you would keep the same ball position but align your feet a little more to the right. You would then swing a little more around the body. The low-fade then is the exact opposite. You would aim your feet a little to the left and feel as though you're swinging a little steeper. You would of course also keep the same ball position.

Now when moving to a medium trajectory shot, you would place the ball in it's normal position, just forward of centre. To hit a straight shot, you would just do your normal swing. When hitting a draw, you once again would aim a little right to allow for a flatter path. With a fade, you would aim left again and feel as though you're swinging more outside-in. The ball position of course would stay in the same position each time.

Lastly when moving to higher shots, you then want to move the ball position more forward close to your left heel. With the straight shot you just do your normal swing. With the high draw, you move your feet alignment to the right and swing a little inside. Now with the high fade, you want to again move your alignment a little to the left and just feel as though you're swinging more outside-in.
