The Unique Swing Of Brian Harman

Brian's uniqueness starts immediately when he forms his posture. Typically with most elite golfers they would have just a little knee flex and around a 45 degree spine tilt However with Brian, he tends to be quite squatted with his back more upright. This then sets off a chain of events early on in his swing that's usually not recommended to the average golfer.

When Brian takes the club back, he tends to push the hands and arms away from his body causing wide separation at the first position (club reaching parallel to the ground). The path however is quite neutral at this point as the clubhead and the hands are still forming a straight line. The clubface though is quite open.

Now Brian then starts to move the club to the top position with the hands just left of the left shoulder which is ideal for a left hander. When Brian starts to swing down the shaft then starts to flatten quite considerably however due to him having such incredible body rotation he is able to move the club into a great position at hip height just before impact. This is where again you should see the clubhead and the hands form a straight line.

Now it's also important to note that at this position just before impact the clubface is still open however due to Brian's ability to tun his body so successfully to the right, his path and clubface start to neutralise through impact. We can also see his right glute at impact with him maintaining spine angle right up until the ball is struck. This is another hallmark of an elite striker because if you maintain spine angle while rotating it means you're compressing your weight into the ground and thus giving you maximum distance and accuracy.

This swing is truly all about his downswing and Brian's exceptional ability to rotate his lower half through the ball. You could only really teach this swing with someone who has the same level of athletic ability otherwise if you perform the same backswing as Brian, it will be too hard to compensate on the downswing.
