One of the biggest keys for a consistent swing is establishing early connection between the arms and the body. Tour Professionals are very aware of this and will typically rehearse before every practice and real swing their desired takeaway. They are trying to feel their arms staying in front of their chest while they turn. If they can establish this feeling early in their swing, they will then be able have the correct movement through the ball.
This movement when trying to first accomplish this will feel very unusual and typically uncomfortable. As mentioned in previous posts however, this movement is quite natural when comparing it to passing a heavy object to someone such as a medicine ball. Our natural feeling when passing a heavy object will be to rotate the body with arms staying in front of the chest. Also we will typically keep the distance between the arms and the body whilst turning as this will feel our strongest position.
When trying to adopt this into the real swing, the biggest key is how the left arm and hands move. You want to feel as though the left arm and hands slide across the body while the clubhead stays in front. You want to also feel a natural blend of wrist hinge and the body starting to rotate. A good check point when you know you have performed this movement correctly is that the distance between the hands and the body should of remained the same until the club reaches parallel to the ground.
Another check point also when you reach parallel to the ground is that the butt end of the club is pointed at the chest. When you have performed this movement competently, you will feel your arms and your chest very tightly linked. Tiger Woods once stated when he knew he finally created his ideal swing, that his swing felt tight. This simply means that when you're swinging correctly, your arms and your chest will feel strong and dynamic. One final point to establishing this strong connection is swing path. Just ensure that when the club reaches parallel to the ground that the club head and the hands form a straight line.
